Blaine's Public Safety Director is the designated Emergency Management Coordinator for our community. Public Safety Department staff develops and maintains the City's Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan and help other city departments and the public to prepare for the unexpected. Blaine's
Auxiliary Communications Service is an important part of this preparation.
Blaine is in a unique location as a small community on an international border, straddling an interstate freeway, positioned between two large urban areas and serviced by large saltwater marinas. We have adopted an All Hazards approach to planning for occasional emergencies which arise from severe weather, civil disturbances, homeland security needs or criminal activity.
The Public Safety Department has a cooperative agreement and works closely with the Whatcom County Division of Emergency Management (DEM) team. DEM maintains an excellent
website and provides a countywide resource for personal emergency planning.
